A Helpful Hand to My Community

For my school community, I am a Monti/Hender Captain. As a Monti/Hender Captain, I help set up and run activities that benefit our school community and the community we live in. This year we set up a food drive. People bring in canned foods or foods that don’t spoil as quickly. The food drive isn’t mandatory but the whole school is motivated to bring in something. The food goes to a local food pantry.ddfd

As an individual I volunteered to stand outside of a local grocery store and help raise money for numerous events. I also joined my school’s debate team. I love to express myself and have an opinion but I also enjoy challenging myself to prove someone wrong. I try to get involved as much as I can. Over the summer, I helped my neighbors out with their gardens. I walked their dogs and helped pick weeds.

Another thing that I do to help my community is that I signed up for soccer referee classes. It’s one class but it lasts about 9 hours. I will start refereeing little kids throughout the spring soccer season. If possible, I would love to ref indoor games. I have an advantage because I play soccer so I know all the rules, however, one thing that will be hard is trying to avoid the rowdy parents. I will be starting high school soon so I have one thing to look forward to: earning some money.

Helping the community not only makes you a better person, but encourages others to help out. I love to see people smile when they realize that what they are doing is helping out their community.  Yes, helping out may not be as fun as playing games but it sure is worth it.
